Germany sporting director Rudi Völler believes Newcastle United may well have secured a bargain in Nick Woltemade.
Völler has been talking to Kicker about the Newcastle United summer signing and Sky Deutschland have relayed his comments.
On August 30th, Eddie Howe’s side completed the striker’s signing from VfB Stuttgart for a reported fee of €75m plus €5m bonuses.
The forward scored 18 goals and contributed three assists from 36 matches for Stuttgart last season.
His performances helped the 23-year-old to make debut for Germany in June. This took place days before he joined Germany U21 at the UEFA U21 championship, which they lost to eventual winners England.
Woltemade managed five goals and three assists from five matches in the tournament. He has extended his run since moving to Newcastle United, scoring nine goals and contributing two assists from 23 matches.
His performances for the Premier League side have helped the attacker cement his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad.
Völler has seen him up close while Woltemade represented his country and isn’t surprised by his talent.
“I was already a regular presence at the U21 training ground, and everyone knew he had talent. Now nobody’s even talking about the €80m transfer fee he paid to Newcastle. In the end, it was practically a bargain (laughs). His quality is truly exceptional,” he said.
Earlier today, Woltemade explained why he was shocked over his transfer to Newcastle United.
