Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga has praised Leeds United’s decision to ban the fan who hit him with a coin last year.
Elanga was struck by a coin thrown from the crowd during Manchester United’s win over Leeds at Elland Road back in February.
The incident saw him struck by an object as United celebrated by the corner flag following Fred’s goal, with had restored his side’s lead.
The youngster was seen to hit the ground and required medical attention at the time but did continue the game, having only entered the pitch as a substitute three minutes earlier.
It was the first time Leeds had hosted Manchester United at Elland Road in the Premier League, without Covid restrictions, since October 2003, something that undoubtedly added to an already charged atmosphere.
Leeds have been investigating the incident since and it was reported in England this week that they had decided to ban a 21-year-old supporter for life as a result.
Elanga was made aware of that news during a recent interview with Fotboll Skanalen, and admitted he was pleased by it.
“Is it true? Wow,” he said.
“I didn’t know that. But that’s good. Now no other fans will do what he did. That’s great. The most important thing is that the police have handled this well.”
