Lucas Andersen says he hasn’t ended his playing career, after struggling to find a club since leaving Queens Park Rangers.

The 31-year-old has been relayed by Tipsbladet, addressing his current situation after his QPR exit.

At the end of the 2024/25 season, QPR released the Dane and he is yet to find a new club.

The attacking midfielder graduated from AaB Fodbold, spending one year with their first team before leaving them for Ajax in 2012.

He returned to the Danish club in 2019, only to leave them for the Championship side in February 2024.

Without club since leaving QPR

Andersen played 2,126 minutes from 51 matches in all competitions for the London club, scoring three goals and contributing four assists. He made 12 starts in the Championship in the second half of the 2023/24 season.

However, the Dane mainly operated as a substitute last season, starting in 13 of the 33 league matches.

Given he’s without a club, he’s been training with AaB. Three months ago, the Danish club’s sporting director, John Møller, said the player has no plans to return. The official also added his desire is to join a club away from Denmark.

Andersen is yet to find a new club since leaving QPR, and this led to questions whether he has ended his playing career. Although not comfortable answering these, he has now sent a clear message.

“I’m still true to myself in terms of trying to find the right football project, even though time is passing,” he said.

“The love for the sport, which has been a part of my life since I was three years old, is exactly the key for me. Not just to play and be a football player. I want to be able to pass something on and experience an adventure through the lens of football.

“I have a lot of time to think at the moment. And sometimes it is difficult to deal with all the constant questions. You have been out for a long time? Do people think I am finished? What are you going to do now?

“Not being able to do too much because you are worried that people will ‘retire’ you in their own minds, although I am still very, very keen to continue my football career.

Decision to reject offers backfired

In October, Sport Witness relayed news from Denmark he rejected offers from Saudi Arabia and Olympiakos Nicosia.

A month later, the former QPR man said he accepts the consequences of not accepting offers from these clubs.
