Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has admitted he received proposals in the January transfer window, amid reports of Aston Villa trying to sign him.
The midfielder confirmed to RMC Sport that he had been the subject of interest in the previous transfer window, ahead of a summer in which his future will again be in the spotlight.
Guendouzi was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa throughout January as Unai Emery strengthened the squad, he had inherited from Steven Gerrard that month.
He was reportedly keen on a reunion with the French midfielder at Villa Park, having handed him his Premier League debut at Arsenal in August 2018 and given him a further 66 appearances during their time together at the Emirates.
It was that relationship which seemingly led him to try and sign him in January, with one report making it clear the Villans had made the player a very good financial offer.
Ultimately a move didn’t but reports since have made it clear Aston Villa remain keen and could return in the summer.
Whether that happens remains to be seen in the coming months but Guendouzi has confirmed he did receive offers to depart Marseille.
“It’s true that I had requests this winter, a few proposals from clubs, but I didn’t feel like leaving, I wanted to finish the season,” he said.
“My focus is on those 10 remaining games, accomplishing our goal. This summer? We are not there yet, there will be discussions with the club, but I am very happy at OM”
