Troy Parrott is a Republic of Ireland hero. No, superhero.

The 23-year-old came through the academy at Tottenham Hotspur and is now fulfilling his promise. He’d moved to Spurs, and England, in 2017 and stayed in the Tottenham system until 2024.

A series of loans came before his permanent exit to Dutch club AZ. Parrott first went to Millwall, which didn’t go particularly well. He then had spells at Ipswich Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Preston North End and Excelsior.

Tottenham rated the forward highly but weren’t able to give the minutes he needed to progress.

Earlier this year, the likeable footballer was asked to rank himself against a range of other forwards. Parrott put himself ahead of Evan Ferguson, Jorgen Strand Larsen, Jamie Vardy, Enen Unal and Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke, before picking Harry Kane as the best there is.

At the time, his claims may have seemed a little overly confident, but now he’s Ireland’s superhero it’s fully justified.

In the days after he scored five goals in two matches to save his country’s World Cup hopes, Parrott’s mother said the family celebrated with KFC meals.

That did the media rounds, and Parrott has now been asked more about his preferences when it comes to Colonel Sanders.

Unfortunately, our hero nearly ruined the whole KFC slant before saving it with a zinger. ESPN Netherlands quote him as saying: “Normally, I’m not actually the biggest fan of KFC, but it was like one minute away from the hotel and my family wanted to get that, so I have no choice. I think I got a Zinger Burger. Just chicken, mayonnaise, yeah.”

Continuing with his food review, Parrott said: “It was ok, it was fresh. Sometimes when you get food from those places, it’s been there all day. But they made it fresh, it was nice.”

Excellent stuff, is anyone else hungry?
