Celtic face SC Braga in the Europa League on Thursday. In the run up to the match the Portuguese media are busy telling their readers all about the club’s history. That of course largely revolves around them explaining the Celtic and Rangers rivalry endlessly.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, Nottingham Forest are playing FC Midtjylland, also on Thursday. Cho Gue-sung, a 27-year-old South Korea international who plays for the Danish club, has recently said Celtic once tried to sign him.

That was at the time Ange Postecoglou was in charge at Celtic Park. At the manager’s press conference today ahead of Nottingham Forest’s clash, Postecoglou was asked if the transfer claim is correct.

Tipsbladet quote him as saying: “I tried really hard to bring him to Celtic, but he ended up turning me down, so I wasn’t happy about that. At that time he was doing really well, and you could see the qualities he had. His career has gone in a slightly different direction since then, but I still know him really well, because we studied him closely in the scouting department when we wanted to sign him.”

Postecoglou should be able to get another close look at Cho Gue-sung this week, although it’s unlikely Nottingham Forest would be keen. Celtic also appear to have moved on from the South Korean.
