Defender Michal Karbownik will be returning to Brighton and Hove Albion this summer, with Fortuna Düsseldorf unable to agree a financial package for the player.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover comments from Düsseldorf chief Christian Weber on the prospect of a permanent move for the defender.
Karbownik has spent this season on loan with the 2. Bundesliga side and established himself as a key player, making 24 appearances in the league and managing five goals and one assist.
The German side are more than happy with what they’ve seen and had been hoping to tie up a permanent deal with Brighton for him, but Kicker say there is ‘no prospect of an agreement’ on that front.
They say Karbownik will ‘bid farewell’ to Düsseldorf on Sunday, with it explained that he ‘will most likely return’ to the Premier League with Brighton this summer.
That’s been confirmed by Weber, who has admitted that they simply couldn’t work out a deal with the Seagulls to make a deal happen.
“As of today, there is no option to come to an amicable agreement between the two clubs,” he said.
“Because the financial conditions are not there. We tried to give Brighton creative options, but they are not prepared to make any financial concessions. We have to assume that Micky will leave us.”
