Newcastle United, like a number of Premier League clubs, are currently going through something of an injury crisis. For Eddie Howe, his problems are focused around central defence, with bad luck seeing multiple Magpies options fall to injury recently.
An injury crisis during a transfer window inevitably leads to claims clubs will use the market. That’s been no different for Newcastle United, and they’ve been linked with a number of defensive options.
One of those is Stefan De Vrij, with it even claimed Newcastle United have made contact regarding the Inter Milan player. Nottingham Forest have also been linked, with it claimed Sean Dyche’s side would be looking at a loan.
Calciomercato have now moved to dismiss it all. According to their sources, there’s nothing concrete with Newcastle United or anyone else in the Premier League. A loan is also considered very unlikely given De Vrij’s contract expires at the end of the season.
De Vrij was linked to Nottingham Forest in December, with those claims appearing to be based on little to nothing.
Newcastle United interest would likely be welcomed

Stefan de Vrij of FC Internazionale celebrates his first goal with Nicola Zalewski
during the Serie A COMO 1907 v FC INTERNAZIONALE at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
At the time the 33-year-old’s agent spoke to the Italian media. Federico Pastorello also represents 37-year-old Francesco Acerbi. The pair of central defenders both have Inter Milan contracts expiring at the end of June.
Pastorello said: “The club has been very clear with us. They’ll make a decision at the end of the season. Obviously, some players will be free to negotiate a renewal, while others may have already signed with someone else in the meantime.
“However, I don’t see any decisions being made on the horizon. Inter will have their hands full; they have five or six players whose contracts are expiring and they’re all players who have made the club’s recent history. We’re relaxed; we know the club will resume these discussions in May or June.
“We’re doing our job, which is to bring as many options as possible to the players. That said, the players are very attached to Inter. De Vrij is in his eighth season, and Acerbi has also written some very important pages in the Nerazzurri’s recent history. They’re getting along very well, and I’m not ruling anything out, but we’ll talk about it in due time.”
Should Newcastle United interest genuinely appear, then Pastorello would surely listen, but that isn’t the case yet.
