Aston Villa’s agreement for Alysson Edward includes an extra clause that has now come to light in Brazil. According to information confirmed behind the scenes and reported by Gremistas and other local outlets, Grêmio secured a 10% sell-on profit clause linked to any future transfer of the winger.
The clause applies specifically to profit. Aston Villa must pay Grêmio 10% of any amount earned above the €10m fixed fee agreed in the current deal. For example, if Alysson eventually leaves Birmingham for €15m, Grêmio would receive 10% of the €5m profit.
This mechanism adds another layer of value to the transfer for the Porto Alegre club. Grêmio will already collect €9m from the guaranteed fee, plus the possibility of €2.5m in performance bonuses. The sell-on clause now gives them an additional chance to earn from Alysson’s development in the Premier League.
Aston Villa pushed to secure the winger on a long-term contract and moved quickly once negotiations opened in Brazil. Grêmio, meanwhile, used the final hours of talks to lock in conditions they viewed as strategic for the future.
The agreement reinforces both clubs’ expectations: Villa believe Alysson can grow in England, and Grêmio expect his value to rise again. With the deal now completed, all eyes turn to the player’s adaptation once he arrives in Birmingham.
According to the report, Grêmio will announce the transfer ‘in coming hours’. That timeline may be somewhat elastic, but we’ll see.
