Davide Frattesi

Nottingham Forest could make an attempt to sign Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi in the summer, after January failure.

The midfielder couldn’t complete a move to the City Ground, and since the winter market, the Nottingham Forest target has played 167 minutes from six Serie A matches.

His situation at the San Siro hasn’t improved after failing to secure a move to the English club.

To put it in context, he’s played 1,058 minutes from 28 matches and that includes three starts each in the league and Champions League this season.

Frattesi’s performances seem to have dropped, especially in the league, when compared to last season. Below are stats per game and the second digit is for the current season.

  • Expected Goals [xG] per season: 4.10 – 1.75
  • Expected Assists per season: 0.82 – 0.15
  • Clearances: 0.5 – 0.2
  • Successful dribbles: 0.3 – 0.2
  • Ground dules won:  2.0 – 1.5
  • Aerial duels won: 0-4 – 0.2

Despite the numbers showing he hasn’t performed as well as last season, he continues to attract interest from Italy and abroad.

Nottingham Forest step away in January

Calciomercato.it have a report on the Italy international and cover Nottingham Forest’s failed January approach.

Sean Dyche was manager at the City ground when the Premier League side made firm advances. The Reds replaced the former Everton boss with Vítor Pereira in February.

Nottingham Forest had ‘practically done everything’ to secure the 26-year-old’s services. However, the move collapsed because the Nerazzurri couldn’t complete the signing of Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.

In February, Frattesi’s agent Giuseppe Riso confirmed this as the reason for the failure and the outlet again points that out.

Cristian Chivu’s side plan to make changes to their squad and Frattesi will ‘definitely say goodbye’ after this season.

He aims to continue in Italy where Juventus remain an option, along with AS Roma, Napoli and Lazio. The Turin club’s interest doesn’t seem to ‘fade away’ mainly because of their manager, Luciano Spalletti.

Inter Milan, for their part, aren’t keen on letting him join another Serie A club, especially a rival like Juventus. This would only be possible if there’s a tempting proposal.

A move abroad, specifically to the Premier League, remains the likely scenario. Chivu’s side could reopen talks with Nottingham Forest, provided they continue in the top flight.  Pereira’s side are 17th in the table, level on points with 18th placed West Ham United.

Frattesi’s price could drop below €30m and the final fee would be clarified in the summer.

The player is represented by GR Sports, headed by Italian agent Giuseppe Riso. His client list mainly includes Italian players, like Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and the Reds’ Lorenzo Lucca.

Nottingham Forest worked with the agent to sign Lucca on loan from Napoli in the last window. This could help them negotiate for Frattesi’s transfer again, as long as relegation is avoided.

Frattesi has a contract until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €28m. That could drop further if he continues to be a backup player at Inter Milan.
