West Ham United have been an option for Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, according to the Dutch media.

De Telegraaf journalist Marcel van der Kraan reports regular contact has taken place between West Ham and the 24-year-old’s agent. He mentioned this for the newspaper’s podcast, Kick-Off, and Voetbal Primeur have relayed his comments.

The Netherlands international was already linked with a move to West Ham last summer. Towards the end of August, claims from the Dutch press mentioned the Hammers. It was at a time when the midfielder wanted to leave the Eredivisie side.

Timber wasn’t successful then as he’s still at Feyenoord, where he has a contract until the end of this season. He recently admitted a renewal is still possible, but that is no longer the case.

Van der Kraan claims the Dutchman’s agent has been in talks with several clubs. This includes Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, VfL Wolfsburg and Lazio.

“His agents have been talking to all sorts of clubs for months: VfL Wolfsburg, Lazio, West Ham United, but the right choice just wasn’t there,” he said.

Timber hasn’t favoured West Ham or the other two clubs. Instead, he has decided to join Marseille in the winter market.

West Ham can’t offer European football

According to the journalist, the parties have reached an agreement. Robin van Persie’s side could earn around €8-10m.

“That [move to Marseille] will definitely happen. They [Timber and Marseille] have already reached an agreement. The question now is the price Feyenoord will negotiate. How much will that be? This is an estimate, because I haven’t heard any figures yet, but I think it will be around €10-12m,” Van der Kraan explained.

“He knew yesterday when he was nose to nose with Van Persie that the transfer was on the horizon.”

West Ham are now in the relegation zone while Marseille are in the Champions League. A move to France will see Timber enjoy European football, which the Hammers can’t offer.
