Gazzetta dello Sport report on Sunday that a January transfer for Leandro Paredes is now ‘likely’. The Italian newspaper explain it’s not inevitable but given AS Roma’s signing of Clement Grenier, the Argentine’s exit is more possible.
Roma have their eye on other purchases, including Franck Kessie and Grégoire Defrel, and funds from Paredes would make once of those possible.
Gazzetta say there’s interest from the Premier League, and that there’s been offers from England, with Tottenham one of three clubs named. However, it’s not stated which club or clubs those offers have come from.
Paredes is a 22 year old versatile midfielder, who has been very highly rated by Roma and the club’s supporters. It’s perhaps surprising to see him edged towards the exit, but manager Luciano Spalletti seems to have other plans.
Roma want at least €25m, which is affordable for Tottenham, and Mauricio Pochettino would likely be a good coach for his fellow Argentine.
It’s not a transfer Tottenham obviously need to do, but it could be worth considering, given that such an opportunity didn’t look as possible a few months ago.
Should Pochettino wish to push ahead with an effort, Tottenham shouldn’t have an issue with a work permit, given the fee requested, and Roma being in a top league.
