RB Leipzig director of football Max Eberl has criticised the “hot air” currently circling the transfer window as he eyes a move for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.
Eberl has been speaking to SportBILD about the upcoming transfer window and his plans for it, where Leipzig are likely to be rebuilding after something of a disappointing campaign.
They’ve been heavily linked with a move for Balogun, who is expected to leave the Emirates this summer after an impressive season on loan at Reims.
The 21-year-old has managed 21 goals and three assists in 37 games this season, an impressive tally that has several clubs chasing his signature as it’s believed there is no place for him at Arsenal.
Leipzig are one of them, with BILD explaining they currently have a €30m pain threshold for any transfer, a figure which, conveniently fits into Arsenal’s apparent desire to make that figure as a minimum in any sale.
At the moment that isn’t a problem which needs to be overcome but if the Gunners raise their price, which they could always do, that could put Leipzig out of the mix.
Then there are other outside factors playing their part two, something Eberl was keen to point out in his comments to the newspaper.
“The English market is now transferring very internally because you no longer want to give the money to the continent – that’s how you get the feeling from the outside,” he said.
“The transfer market is crazy. Large sums are there, players are traded, anyone who plays reasonably well is immediately traded with the top club.
“There’s a lot of speculation in there. At the long end, there is also a lot of hot air that you have to endure in peace. We have opportunities because we are a club that is very ambitious, that can grow with Champions League and title ambitions.
“That’s why we’re already noticing that RB Leipzig is very exciting on the transfer market.”
