Italian newspaper Tuttosport have an article in their Wednesday edition linking Tottenham with Andrea Ranocchia. The idea is that Inter Milan want to sell Ranocchia to fund a move for Ricardo Rodriguez.
Tottenham have been dragged into it because of Jan Vertonghen’s injury, and it’s claimed Spurs could now move in for Ranocchia as a replacement.
Whatever Tuttosport say, it just all sounds so unlike Tottenham. Signing a replacement for Vertonghen, who is expected to be out for a couple of months or so, would be rash. Making Ranocchia that replacement would be very rash.
If Ranocchia is only good enough to play 380 Serie A minutes for Inter Milan this season, then he’s no Vertonghen replacement. Besides, Mauricio Pochettino has made sure Tottenham are pretty strong in depth in defence, so there’s no need for panic.
Pochettino even considering this for Tottenham would be a surprise, so unless the Argentine coach has gone into a crazed panic after Vertonghen’s injury, there’s surely nothing in this.
Reading between the lines of previous transfer windows and the current one, it seems Inter are very keen to sell Ranocchia to an English club (money), but he’s not that keen, and there’s not been too much interest.
