This week, the English press brought back Newcastle United’s interest in Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, claiming the Magpies continue to be interested in the centre-back.
The defender has been linked to several Premier League sides this summer, and even though it seemed like none of them would get him, a potential late effort from Eddie Howe’s side was reported.
The Portuguese media now covers this situation, and newspaper A Bola claims Newcastle are still to make a formal offer for Inácio.
It’s said this ‘harassment’ hasn’t turned into an official bid yet, although that could change in the ‘next few hours’.
A Bola highlights that the defender is an important piece in Ruben Amorim’s squad, and since he’s protected by a €60m release clause, that’s very likely to be his price.
The transfer isn’t ruled out, though, with the newspaper saying Sporting could go after a late buy in case he moves to Newcastle.
That sounds like a very unpredictable story for now, which will only change once the Magpies actually make official contact for the transfer.
