For the past few months, Manchester United have been linked to Ajax star Brian Brobbey repeatedly.
It’s been said Erik ten Hag is interested in his former club’s centre-forward, and this week, the player even said he fancies a move to Old Trafford.
It turns out that as Soccer News shares some quotes from the Kick-Off podcast, there’s some pessimism for Manchester United and all other clubs who are interested in taking Brobbey from Ajax.
According to Mike Verweij, the Eredivisie side told the striker they’re not planning to sell him, and would only change their minds in case a huge offer arrives.
“Ajax have made it clear to him that they do not want to get rid of him, nor do they want to enter into talks with other clubs. If they offer sixty, seventy or eighty million euros, things could suddenly be very different again. But Ajax wants to build an eleven around him.”
Pundit Valentijn Driessen, however, doesn’t believe that 100%. Soccer News points out that he feels this is ‘part of the transfer game, as Ajax can’t simply turn down all bids on their table, as that could even harm the club’s chances to make some signings in the future.
With Brobbey having 21 goals and ten assists this season so far, we’ll see if Manchester United will at least try to convince the Dutch side.
