Yesterday, we relayed a story from Mercato365 that Stéphane Sessègnon could be on his way to Montpellier in France.
Well, according to the club’s president, everything is on track to get the player to sign a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 club after brief but successful negotiations, as well as a medical.
Speaking to Midi-Libre, Louis Nicollin said: “Everything is OK for us. The medical was passed, we agreed on the wages and the contract is ready. The player simply asked us for an extra 48 hours in order to sort out a few personal issues in London, where his family live.”
The player, who was released from West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season, is expected to return to the South of France on Saturday, and will be present in the crowd to watch his future team play Metz at the weekend.
Basically, it would be surprising if the former Sunderland player didn’t end up returning to Ligue 1 this season, a league he left in 2011 when he transferred to the north of England from Paris Saint-Germain.
With 15 goals and 24 assists in 138 games during his time in France’s top division, there’s a feeling he can provide a nice spark for Montpellier, who are currently 13th in the table with six points from their first six games.
