It’s no secret that Arsenal are interested in Aaron Hickey, as there have been multiple reports of an interest over the past week.
What we didn’t know is that the Gunners, alongside Brentford FC, are actually interested in three players from Bologna, which is why their director of football Riccardo Bigon, is in London.
The transfer chief was reported as travelling to the capital city to watch Tottenham face Arsenal on Thursday evening, but it was also to sit down with clubs and test the waters regarding transfer business.
Corriere dello Sport explain Bigon travelled to negotiate with both Brentford and the Gunners, and ‘take the pulse’ of the two clubs ‘that have shown in the past weeks an important interest in above all Hickey and Mattias Svanberg, but also for Jerdy Schouten’.
Previous reports linking Arsenal have suggested that to sign the Scottish left-back, a fee of around €20m would be needed, while the Swedish midfielder would be cheaper, seeing as his contract expires next year.
As for the Dutchman, he was said to be a target for West Ham, who see him as a replacement for Declan Rice, should he leave this summer.
The interest from Arsenal and Brentford in him is new, and we’ll have to wait and see if more comes from this trip Bigon decided to undertake.
