SC Cambuur are ‘anxiously watching’ the impending transfer of Milan Smit to Stoke City, as they’ll benefit greatly from the deal.
That’s according to De Telegraaf. They cover the transfer today and how Cambuur will benefit from the €5.5m that Stoke City are paying.
A report earlier today explained that the Go-Ahead Eagles star is set to join Stoke City imminently. They’ve agreed a €5.5m deal with the Dutch side for him. A medical is expected to take place at some point today.
That’s being celebrated by Go Ahead, who are set to receive a club record fee. That currently stands at €4.4m, which was Rangers purchase of Oliver Antman. Smit’s deal is smashing that, and it’s a bonus for others too.
SC Cambuur sold Smit to Go Ahead for €825,000 a year and a half ago. And as part of that deal, they negotiated a 20% resale percentage. This has been confirmed to De Telegraaf by sources.
Stoke City transfer bringing windfall
Including a solidarity payment for the player as well, they’ll receive a ‘financial windfall’ of €1m. That’ll be warmly welcomed at the club as they’re facing financial difficulties due to a move to the new Kooi Stadium.
They had to finance a large part of the construction of that themselves, resulting in substantial interest and principal expenses on their books. €1m from Stoke City will go a long way to easing some of that burden.
Thus, they’re eagerly watching developments like everyone else. According to De Telegraaf, Smit has already flown to England to report to Stoke City for a medical. Once that’s done, perhaps Cambuur can really get excited.
