On November 13th, Jeunes Footeux reported Florian Maurice has given the green light to sign Nottingham Forest’s Arnaud Kalimuendo in the winter market. They also stated he’s not prioritising a move to France.
Nice-Matin, a newspaper local to the Ligue 1 side, now looks at Nice’s chances of securing the striker’s services in January.
Nottingham Forest signed Kalimuendo from Stade Rennais in August. The Nice director knows him well as he had signed him for Stade Rennais in 2022.
Nice coach Franck Haise had previously managed the 23-year-old for two years between 2020 and 2022 at RC Lens.
Kalimuendo starred under his orders, managing 21 goals and six assists from 65 matches for Lens. He extended his form at Stade Rennais but is yet to shine at Nottingham Forest. The Frenchman has two goals from 13 matches for the Reds, and now ‘finds himself in a situation of failure’.
The newspaper says the Premier League side invested €30m to sign him. Nice are looking to sign the attacker on loan, but his ‘hefty salary’ remains a concern.
Therefore, the Ligue 1 club have to go through ‘tougher negotiations’ to convince Sean Dych’s side to sanction a loan move in January even though Haise knows the player. In short, this operation is ‘more expensive’ for Nice.
Earlier today, Le Parisien reported Paris FC have made an approach to sign Kalimuendo. They are also vying for loan, with a purchase option.
