Despite being named as the interim manager to see out the season at Tottenham following the sacking of José Mourinho, there is little to no chance that Ryan Mason will be in the dugout for Spurs when the 2021-22 season starts.

A replacement will be signed during the summer, but it won’t be Julian Nagelsmann, who will be heading to Bayern Munich, and it probably won’t be Jesse Marsch either.

That leaves the likes of Maurizio Sarri and Erik ten Hag as likely candidates for the London based job, with the former currently free to go wherever he wants, while the latter is contracted to Ajax.

It’s been said in the past that the former Chelsea manager was a ‘concrete option’ for Tottenham, although Il Tempo on Wednesday claim Daniel Levy has now ‘decided to focus’ on his Dutch counterpart.

This therefore leaves AS Roma, who are expected to part ways with Paulo Fonseca at the end of the season, a free run at Sarri, which the newspaper are quite happy about.

While the Italian’s name is on a shortlist at Spurs, the club chairman’s decision to go after ten Hag makes life easier for the Serie A club.

Despite this all sounding rather exciting, since ten Hag has done a decent job at Ajax and strives to get his teams to play nice football, it’s also worth pointing out that this story, the ones linking Tottenham to the 51-year-old, hasn’t really gained any traction in the Netherlands, where you would expect a number of stories were there any contact.

One to keep an eye on, but until we see the likes of De Telegraaf and co. reporting it seriously, it’s likely the options remain open in the London offices for the time being.
