With Denzel Dumfries seemingly on his way out to bring money to Inter’s coffers, there will be a need for a new right-back next summer.
One of the main targets that has been put forward is that of Emerson Royal, currently contracted to Tottenham in the Premier League.
The Brazilian, while a starter under Antonio Conte, doesn’t appear to be the long-term solution in the role at Spurs, with a few claims suggesting the London side are looking elsewhere to replace him.
That would suit Inter, since they like what he has to offer and seemingly have a talent to get the best out of their wing-backs, leading to the idea that talks could start with Tottenham in the near future.
Corriere dello Sport on Thursday, however, make it clear that ‘a negotiation has not even been started’, and that’s partly down to Spurs.
They add Tottenham’s ‘actual intentions must first be verified’, suggesting that they don’t even know what Conte plans to do with the player yet.
Considering how much speculation there has been about an exit, it seems rather clear Royal’s days are numbered, but whether anything happens before the summer, that’s up to interested clubs and whatever alternatives are on the market.
