Earlier this week, the Spanish media had been commenting on the lack of minutes that Tottenham Hotspur loanee Alejo Veliz has been getting in Spain.
The local press explained that Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores is not bothered about using some loanees they have, and had no plans to give the Spurs player any chances to prove himself.
As the coach today spoke to Spanish journalists, Mucho Deporte now shares some of his quotes on Veliz, and it gives a clue on how he’s thinking.
“He needs to change the rhythm of feeling to have more chances,” he said. By that, we assume he means that more is required in training.
It was last summer that Tottenham signed Veliz from Rosario Central, spending €15m on his arrival. He also found no space in Spurs’ squad, though, only having 42 minutes on the pitch in the first half of the season.
The problem is that despite Sevilla’s operation to sign him, the scenario didn’t get any better. Since arriving in Spain, he made three appearances, with a total of just 23 minutes.
Quique Sanchez Flores doesn’t appear to have been happy with Sevilla’s January business, and part of his reluctance to use those brought in stems from that.
It then remains to be seen what Tottenham will do with him next summer, as it seems unlikely he’s now got the necessary experience to be in Ange Postecoglou’s team.
