Barcelona are one of the clubs keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur‘s Cristian Romero in the summer.

Hansi Flick’s side want to strengthen the centre-back position and identify Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni as the main target.

Last month, we relayed news that the Tottenham star is the main alterative to the Italian.

Five days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Barca refuse to pay €70m for Bastoni and are now focusing on Romero.

The same source reported the La Liga winners will only consider a deal for a significantly lower price.

Tottenham open to summer sale

DSports in Argentina pick up on that and now cover the latest on Spurs’ stance on the 28-year-old.

The Argentina international hasn’t made an appearance for Tottenham Hotspur since mid-April due to an injury.

Last week, he travelled to his country and returned to London for his side’s crucial clash against Everton on Sunday. Roberto De Zerbi’s side sealed a 1-0 win and that was enough to avoid relegation.

Barcelona are looking at Cristian Romero to strengthen their defence and aim to sign him for a lower price.

The World Cup winner is keen on leaving the north London club also because he’s not on good terms with the Tottenham leadership. The English club, for their part, are open to negotiating his exit. These factors would ideally make it relatively straight forward for the summer deal.

However, the English club ‘won’t let the star defender go easily’ as they are demanding a very high fee. Tottenham have ‘made it clear from the outset’ they want €60m.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are standing firm, and so does the player on wanting to leave. There’s belief the former could eventually lower the price, and whether that’s the case remains to be seen.

Spurs could collect €60m

Recent claims from elsewhere have talked about Atlético Madrid as an option for Cristian Romero.

Diego Simeone wanted to sign his compatriot last summer and could return for him in the upcoming window. Real Madrid are also reportedly looking at the Tottenham Hotspur star.

If the interest continues to grow, Spurs can be in a good position to collect the desired fee.

Transfermarkt value the former Atalanta man, who has a contract until 2029, at €50m.
