Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture to sign Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong in the summer.
Sport journalist David Bernabeu has provided the latest on the 26-year-old and Fichajes have relayed it.
Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder is mentioned when explaining Paris Saint-Germain’s plan to secure his services.
According to Bernabeu, the Ligue 1 winners are considering offering around €60m, and this is the amount that Tottenham are also ‘willing to pay’ for De Jong.
It’s said this won’t be enough to convince the La Liga side. Ange Postecoglou’s side can get ahead of PSG in the transfer race by offering more money to the Spanish club.
There’s no mention of the fee needed to convince the Blaugrana. Last week, Mundo Deportivo reported Barca are asking around €100m for the the Netherlands international.
His current deal lasts until 2026 and he didn’t accepted the renewal offer proposed by Barca three months ago. This is why there’s been an increase in reports in the Catalan media about the club trying to sell De Jong in the summer.
Barca were keen on selling him to Manchester United in 2022 but the Dutchman refused to leave. He’s highly likely to do what he wants this time as well amid the drama created by the local media.
Tottenham’s name may well be being used for some added drama.
