At this point, with no manager at the helm of the club, Tottenham aren’t really in the business to be conducting any major transfer business.
Whoever takes over from Antonio Conte permanently will want to have a say on how the squad is shaped, but there is still a bit of work that can already be done, such as the future of Clément Lenglet.
The centre-back’s time on loan from Barcelona at Tottenham has worked out well enough, and there’s a firm belief in Spain, courtesy of Sport, that he will remain a Spurs player next season.
This comes as part of an article looking at all the work Mateu Alemany needs to do before going to Aston Villa, and that includes sorting out the future of a few players.
Lenglet is one of those, and it’s stated that the Frenchman ‘could be one of the first operations’ that the football chief closes before leaving.
That’s because Tottenham ‘want to keep’ the player beyond his current loan, and are ‘willing to pay a reasonable price’ to ensure that happens.
The fee isn’t mentioned, but there has been talk of somewhere around €10-15m being enough to get a deal done.
