With so many clubs getting interested in Benfica star Enzo Fernandez lately, Tottenham Hotspur apparently couldn’t stay out of the party.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a story about the many approaches the player has been getting since his great campaign for the World Cup title, as clubs from England, France, Italy and Spain all got in touch for his transfer.

Tottenham were one of them, as they reportedly made an attempt for the signing, which is expected to be one of the hardest in the upcoming transfer windows.

The biggest difficulty to land Fernandez at this time is that Benfica have no intention of selling him in January.

That’s why any clubs who want to have him by then will need to trigger his release clause, which stands at €120m.

The other issue is that the player’s agent reportedly has an agreement with Liverpool, with the midfielder set to give the Reds his priority.

So Tottenham and other clubs must find a way to change his mind, or just make the highest bid when negotiating with Benfica.
