Two days ago, Tuttosport reported Tottenham Hotspur officials have been following Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori closely and have ‘promoted him with flying colours’.
The north London club scouting the defender was pointed out when discussing Juventus interest in the defender.
Friday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport names both Tottenham and the Turin club as interested parties when it comes to the 21-year-old.
Calafiori has impressed since joining the Serie A side from FC Basel last summer. He was mainly operating as a left-back before Thiago Motta used him in the heart of defence this season.
Focusing on his growth so far, the newspaper says the Italy U21 international and Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno are the ‘wonderboys’ of the league.
Coming back to Calafiori, Gazzetta point out the interest shown by both Tottenham and the Old Lady. It’s claimed these two teams already asked for information about him in January.
The versatile defender’s deal lasts until 2027 and Gazzetta say he’s worth at least €25m. With Spurs and the Old Lady both keen, the report adds there will be an auction for him in the summer window.
Bologna are aware that other clubs are showing interest in Calafiori but have no plans to sell him after this season. Whether they can maintain the same stance if Tottenham or Juve push for his signing remains to be seen.
