Guglielmo Vicario is one of the players signed by Tottenham Hotspur this summer and arrived at the north London club from Empoli.

Last month, the Serie A side’s president, Fabrizio Corsi, revealed that Inter Milan tried to snatch the goalkeeper before he completed a move to Spurs.

Vicario’s agent Valerio Giuffrida has told TuttoMercatoWeb that Tottenham were the only Premier League side he held talks with for his client.

The goalkeeper spent his entire career in Italy before making a switch to Tottenham in June. Giuffrida has revealed the 26-year-old had anticipated a move to England and started the preparations for this transfer a long time ago.

“To make no mistake, Vicario started studying English a long time ago, so as not to be caught unprepared for the arrival of an important English club,” he said.

With regards to the negotiations with Spurs for Vicario, Giuffrida explained: “Tottenham wanted him a lot, Spurs were ready at the time and he was just as ready. Vicario made a perfect presentation, he is an intelligent boy who has already got off to a good start in this new adventure. The one with Tottenham was the only negotiation, it was an easy choice.”

Vicario is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper under Ange Postecoglou, especially after Hugo Lloris publicly expressed his desire to leave the English club.

On Friday, RMC Sport stated the Frenchman is getting closer to joining Lazio. It was also reported he wants to leave Spurs as a free agent even though his contract lasts until 2024.
