Tottenham ‘want to get rid’ of Giovanni Lo Celso this summer, but the chances of a return to Real Betis ‘are slim’.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish side are unlikely to be able to afford a return for their former star man.
Lo Celso has returned to Tottenham this summer following a loan spell at Villarreal, but it remains to be seen whether he is a part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad moving forwards.
The suggestion over the last few weeks has been that he won’t be, and Tottenham are keen to move him on following a miserable spell in London since a €32m move from Betis in July 2020.
Should Tottenham look to move him on, they’ve been named as suitors for a player they still fondly remember, with it explained that they’d like to loan him and have maintained contacts with the player and his entourage.
AS cover that today and say that while Tottenham ‘want to get rid’ of Lo Celso this summer, the chances of a return to Betis ‘are slim’.
While ‘they sigh in Heliopolis’ for the player, remembering his excellent time at the club, the reality is they don’t have the money to get a deal done.
Their finances are tight as it is and with La Liga’s salary cap on top, something which has already stopped them from signing free agents and loan players, a deal for Lo Celso looks unlikely.
Of course, nothing can be ruled out entirely when it comes to the transfer window, but for now the chances of Lo Celso returning to his former club are low despite Tottenham’s desire to get rid.
