As far as desperation when it comes to needing a new manager, there’s one club that trump all these days, and that’s Tottenham.
That’s because they’ve yet to find the long-term successor to Antonio Conte after sacking the Italian, while clubs such as Everton quickly found Sean Dyche after getting rid of his predecessor.
Newcastle United, down their end, will hold onto Eddie Howe for dear life following all his good work, but the reason why we mention these three clubs is because they’ve all been linked with Maurizio Sarri on Thursday by Il Messaggero, relayed by Citta Celeste.
The Lazio manager has already worked in the Premier League in the past, leading Chelsea to a Europa League title, and that’s why he’s attractive to some clubs.
As previously stated, the fact Newcastle are mentioned is a bit strange, because Howe is doing so well that even if they were to somehow fail to qualify for the Champions League, they would be better off sticking around with him and focusing on continuity.
The future of Sean Dyche at Everton also seems safe, regardless of whether they get relegated or not, because there are few better managers suited to navigating the Championship than the 51-year-old.
That now leaves Tottenham out of the three mentioned, and it’s made clear that Spurs are ‘vigilant’ to Sarri as they continue to search for the right man to steer them forward.
The Italian is contracted to the club until 2025, and recently rejected a €7m/year offer to manage in the United Arab Emirates, meaning he’s pretty happy where he is.
This means that with likely little interest in the Everton job from his end, and Newcastle focused on Howe, Tottenham would be the only real option for him, but there’s also the chance he looks at their track record with managers of late and decides he might be better off staying put in Rome, where everyone believes in him fully.
