Tottenham Hotspur are set to benefit from Marcus Edwards’ sale to Burnley.
The details are explained by Tuesday’s edition of Record, who cover the Sporting player’s future beyond this season.
The 26-year-old came up through the ranks of Tottenham’s youth system and was sent to Vitória de Guimarães in 2019. He left the Primeira Liga side to join Sporting permanently in January 2022, and Spurs kept their percentage of a resale.
Edwards returned to the UK when Burnley signed him on loan from Sporting in the winter market. The Championship club have an obligation to make his stay permanent for €10m plus €1m bonuses if they were to secure a promotion.
The Clarets are second in the table, level on points with leaders Leeds United, and five ahead of third placed Sheffield United. They are close to returning to the Premier League and if that happens, Sporting will benefit financially.
Sporting manager Rui Borges is clear that doesn’t want the Englishman to return to the club. Their leaders are rubbing their hands on the chance of earning €10m from his sale to Burnley.
Sporting are due 65% of the fee, and Tottenham are close to collecting €3.5m from their 35% share of the attacker’s permanent transfer to Burnley.
