Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for Barcelona and the latter have taken ‘important steps’ to sign him, according to Catalan claims, while the defender has also given green signal for Camp Nou transfer.

Thursday’s edition of Sport claims the La Liga winners are not the club interested in the 19-year-old as Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are also keen on the player managed by super agent Mino Raiola.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side signed Davinson Sanchez from the Eredivisie side in 2017, a year after he moved to Europe from Colombian outfit Atlético Nacional.

At the Johan Cruyff Arena, the north London club’s central defender played alongside the teenager in the heart of the back four and they worked well together, forming a relationship.

It’s claimed that Spurs feel that they have a ‘trick’ to help ‘finalise the signing’ of De Ligt as they believe having the South American in their squad could help the current Ajax star to settle well in the Premier League, if he joins Tottenham.

The duo were impressive while playing together for the Amsterdam-based club and the opportunity to play alongside Sanchez could be tempting for the Netherlands international.

That’s what Sport believe Tottenham are banking on.
