Inter Milan are growing confident that they can seal a deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, as initial talks are “yielding promising results”.

L’Interista report comments from Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari today. He has provided a positive update on Inter Milan’s attempts to sign the Argentine defender.

Confidence from initial talks

Cristian Romero is widely expected to leave Tottenham this summer as part of their rebuild under Roberto de Zerbi.

With big money already spent on Jan Paul van Hecke, and the arrival of Marcos Senesi on a free transfer, the belief is that Romero is free to leave for the right price. Inter Milan have quickly put themselves at the front of the queue for the 28-year-old’s signature.

Indeed, Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining how his agent had been spotted on video after travelling for transfer talks.

Longari now provides a positive update, explaining that confident at Inter Milan is growing thanks to initial talks.

“What we can add is that the groundwork and contacts established by those spearheading this ambitious project are yielding promising results,” he said.

“To get down to specifics, Tottenham has shown a willingness to lower its initial asking price and consider deal structures that would allow Inter to spread out the cost, at least in part.”

Transfer caution

He, though, urges caution. That initial positivity does not mean that a deal between Inter and Tottenham is now closer.

“While a final agreement is clearly still a long way off and the situation remains complex, the initial realism is giving way to the kind of optimism that only those with a keen eye for opportunities can sense,” he added.

“Inter’s management has demonstrated such insight in the past. It aims to prove it once again in this instance.”

The question now, is whether a deal can pick up. Inter appear confident and talks are going well. There is clearly a determination from all parties to move Cristian Romero on from Tottenham this summer.
