For a brief moment, since Tottenham still haven’t signed a replacement for Harry Kane, there was talk of a deal taking Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea to the north London club.
The belief was Spurs could take the Belgian off Mauricio Pochettino’s hands on an initial loan with a potential view to buy, but that no longer appears to be the case.
That’s according to Corriere della Sera, who have an article covering the Chelsea striker’s situation, and mention Tottenham.
It’s recalled that his agent, Sébastien Ledure, has made a recent attempt to see if AS Roma would be interested, since those in charge there have ‘excellent relations’ with Todd Boehly.
However, both his wages, even halved, and the €40m request from the Blues meant the deal wasn’t possible.
Having already turned down the chance of heading to Saudi Arabia, the Tottenham option also appeared, but that path ‘seems like a dead end’ now.
That leaves Juventus, who are hoping for some sort of opening late on, even if it doesn’t include Dusan Vlahovic going the other way, but there has been no indication that could happen as of yet.
