Mikey Moore’s move from Tottenham Hotspur to 1. FC Köln is now ‘close to completion’, with an exit announcement on the way.

BILD report that the German club, and Cologne’s sport’s boss Thomas Kessler, has had to break their ‘transfer principles’ to make the deal happen.

The newspaper reports that the 18-year-old Tottenham winger is now in the final stages of finalising his move to the German club.

The deal is considered a ‘small coup’ for Köln this summer. But Kessler has had to ignore his principles to make the deal happen.

He and the club had to compromise with Tottenham and accept that the deal could not include any sort of purchase option. That is usually something they are against, with Kessler targeting young players who can be sold for profit in future.

However, it was made clear that refusing to budge would simply mean the deal wouldn’t happen. Tottenham reportedly refusing €30m bids for Mikey Moore this summer only emphasises the point. He is a player out of their reach without the compromise.

Tottenham Benefits

So, a year-long loan deal without any option has been agreed. Why? Because Köln believe that Mikey Moore can help the first team immediately. The plan is to use him as a playmaker, but his ability to play on either wing won’t be ignored.

Tottenham are happy with that arrangement. They are hoping that a year in the Bundesliga can do for Moore what it did for Luka Vuskovic. He established himself as key player at HSV Hamburg last season, becoming the Bundesliga’s standout young star. He was then sold to Brighton this summer for €54m.

There’s no indication that they want to sell Moore, but similar development would be welcomed. For now, the focus is just getting the deal over the line after Köln relaxed their principles to get him.
