On Wednesday, we relayed news from Spain claiming that Atlético Madrid, following their exit from the Champions League, could sell Yannick Carrasco.
The player was targeted by Tottenham over the summer, with them reportedly keen on the Belgium international, and while he does have a €60m release clause, he stayed put.
However, times have changed, as the forward hasn’t played as well as he used to, and with Atlético in need of money to compensate for their lack of Champions League funds, Spurs could take advantage.
Carrasco was mentioned as one of the likeliest to be sold, and now Cadena SER in Spain explain he is one of four players put ‘on the market’ by the La Liga side.
In essence, they have transfer listed the Tottenham targeted, as well as three of his teammates, with the aim of selling two of them.
João Félix is the main one they want to sell, while they want to get rid of one from the other three, with those being Carrasco, Thomas Lemar and Rodrigo de Paul.
The idea would be to bring more funds than hat required to make up for the lost Champions League money so they can also reinvest some into new players to improve their squad.
Therefore, ‘departures and arrivals are expected in the coming months’, as they look for a ‘central defender, a midfielder and a right back’, if one is available.
As for Tottenham, they have been handed an opportunity here, which only time will tell if they take it.
