Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s strong wish of signing Pedro Porro from Sporting being reported for months now, we recently saw Chelsea joining the race for the fullback.
Reports from the English and the Portuguese media said the Blues also target the 23-year-old, and that battle is today detailed by newspaper A Bola.
The outlet features a story saying the next week ‘could be decisive’ for the player’s future. That’s because Sporting don’t want to talk about sales before the Lisbon derby, and after that, ‘anything can happen’.
A Bola points out Porro is a target both for Chelsea and Tottenham, but highlights that Spurs are ‘a few steps slightly ahead’. Antonio Conte’s advantage is that they already used intermediaries to say they’re thinking of signing the player.
Sporting are now expected to negotiate the fullback’s departure, and that means he’s only leaving for €45m, which is the price for his release clause.
So in case Tottenham or Chelsea show up willing to pay that much, the only way for Porro to stay would be for him to reject the move.
That sounds unlikely though, because according to A Bola, Spurs can offer ‘far superior’ wages than he makes in Lisbon.
