Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has labelled their Premier League season a ‘disaster’ and admitted their squad simply isn’t good enough.

Cadena SER have quotes from the Tottenham full-back today after he appeared on El Larguero.

Igor Tudor’s side currently sit 16th in the Premier League and just one point outside of the relegation zone.

West Ham’s win over Fulham yesterday but Spurs in serious danger of being in the relegation scrap. Nottingham Forest’s point against Manchester City also moved them a point closer in 17th.

Why he’s annoyed with Tottenham’s awful form

Of those sides, Spurs are undoubtedly in the worst form, having failed to win a game this calendar year so far. They are 20th in the form table over the last six games. They have failed to win in their last ten league games.

A major part of the issue has been injuries and suspensions, with 10 first team players currently out of contention. That’s the most in the league, and Porro admits they simply don’t have the squad to compete.

“Obviously, when you don’t have a squad capable of competing in four competitions, it’s difficult,” he said.

“You see the injuries and it’s a starting eleven that makes you think, ‘Wow.’ Last year was exactly the same; we had that momentum in the Europa League to win the competition, and the same thing happened in the Premier League.

“You have to build a project to compete in everything and be focused on everything.”

Champions League distraction

Strangely, competing in Europe has not been a problem for Tottenham, though. Spurs finished fourth in the Champions League league phase earlier this year. That secured automatic qualification for the round of 16.

They’ll now take on Atletico Madrid following the draw last week. How they treat that game, with Premier League survival on the line, is up for debate.

Porro is expecting a good game, admitting that while their Premier League form is disastrous, Europe has been good for them.

“Our situation in the Premier League is a disaster,” he added.

“But then you see how we’ve competed in the Champions League and barely conceded at home. It’s going to be two very intense matches, and we’ll see what happens.”
