Argentina midfielder Erik Lamela tried not to show any frustration after their 2-2 draw against Peru last Thursday.
Talking to the local press, the Tottenham player said he’s looking forward to tomorrow’s match against Paraguay as Argentina are trying to get above the playoff position in their group.
“We’re close to the top. We’ll have another chance on Tuesday. We’ll make sure to win so we can go back there,” he told reporters (via El ADN).
Asked if the last minute loss to Colombia will affect Paraguay, Lamela said: “They are different matches. I believe Paraguay have already forgotten their last match. They will certainly want to win this one, just like us. These are matches which to win, draw or lose changes a lot. The best thing would be to win.”
The 24-year-old didn’t have the chance to enter the pitch against Peru, but wants to have a chance in the next match: “If I can play this game, I’ll do my best for the team. The most important thing is that the team wins.”
Argentina are currently in fifth place with 16 points, but only three behind the leaders Uruguay. The four best South American teams get a straight spot in the Russia 2018 World Cup, and the fifth goes to a playoff stage.
