Christian Eriksen has been speaking to the press in Denmark this week and several snippets have been interesting for Tottenham fans.
Eriksen is the great hope of his country’s national team, but once that role belonged to Nicklas Bendtner. When the now 28 year old was coming through at Arsenal, there was great excitement in Denmark.
Bendtner scored a goal 30 minutes into his Denmark debut and then scored again in his second match, things were looking very good indeed. Sure, there were edges to the player, and controversies were on the way, but there was for a long time still hope he’d work everything out.
Maybe he still can.
Quoted by Danish newspaper BT speaking about Bendtner, Eriksen said: “Yes. We are probably opposites, me and Nicklas Bendtner. We are very different.”
BT say that when Eriksen arrived in London in 2013, he was very much the new guy in town, with Bendtner the Danish star of London. That may be pushing it slightly.
Eriksen has since seen his career rise, whereas Bendtner has seen his fall, and is now at Nottingham Forest.
BT quote Eriksen as saying (probably tongue in cheek): “And now I have taken his city. London was his city. I have taken over the throne after Nicklas Bendtner. “
