Tottenham are in Paris to face PSG in the fifth round of the Champions League league phase, a match that midfielder João Palhinha describes as “special”.
Speaking to DAZN, the Portugal international expanded on why the meeting carries extra meaning for him.
“It’s a special match”, he said. He recalled fellow Portuguese players which he’s happy to see again. “We already faced them in the Super Cup. But it’s always good to meet Vitinha, João Neves, Gonçalo Ramos.”
He continued: “Unfortunately, Nuno Mendes won’t be able to play, though in a way it’s fortunate for us that we won’t have to face him, because he’s without doubt a big asset for PSG. But it’s always special to play against my teammates, especially because we all have such a good and healthy relationship with one another.”
The fixture comes at an important moment for his club. Tottenham have accumulated disappointing results in the Premier League recently, but managed to gather eight points from their first four Champions League matches.
Palhinha has been a key figure in the midfield, helping the team control transitions and maintain structure in high-pressure situations.
PSG, the reigning European champions, lead the group with nine points and continue to be viewed as one of the favourites for the title.
The meeting in Paris could therefore shape the race for top spot, with Tottenham hoping to turn their strong start into a decisive step towards qualification.
