Tottenham star Cristian Romero is planning to return to Tottenham this summer and speak to Daniel Levy about a departure from the club.

That’s according to journalist Rubén Uría, via El Desmarque, who says the defender is pushing to leave Tottenham for Atlético Madrid.

The Spanish side have been linked with a move for Romero for weeks, with it believed manager Diego Simeone was pulling out all the stops to sign his compatriot.

Romero is also believed to be keen on the move, having already admitted that he would love to play in La Liga at some point in his career.

The problems is that Atlético are yet to get anywhere near Tottenham’s demands, with an initial €55m far below the asking price at this moment in time. That asking price, though, has varied between sources in Spain, England and Argentina. Indeed, it has often increased with each new report.

Tottenham are not easy negotiators either, with it well established that Daniel Levy is a tough man to deal with when it comes to selling his own players. Reports that Tottenham need sales this summer to balance the books haven’t eased that stance either.

Now Uría reports that Romero intends to play his part, although the asking price has increased once again.

“He wants to come to Atlético. Cholo is in direct contact with him. What he’ll do is come back from vacation to speak with Daniel Levy and tell him he wants to leave. From there, we’ll see what happens,” he said during episode 5 of ‘Derbi en USA,’ on Mediaset Infinity.

“Tottenham is asking for €82m to let him leave. They value him like Fofana or Van Dijk, with an expensive transfer fee. They’ve made an offer of €55m plus €10m in variables. I think it’s a very good offer.

“It’s clear that €60m is outrageous, but let’s be clear that if Atlético wants to compete, they have to get used to paying that. It’s what the top teams do. If you want to be in that league, you have to get in. I’m not talking about four guys who spend €100m, but you should spend the money. If you don’t spend it, it’s because finishing third is enough.”
