Tottenham will have been left shocked by Micky van de Ven’s performance in the Netherlands’ 1-0 defeat to Germany, which was far below what anyone was expecting from him.
That’s according to pundit Hans Kraay Junior, via FC Update, who has criticised the Tottenham star for his nervous display in Nations League loss.
Van de Ven was given his chance at centre-back in the game thanks to the absence of Virgil van Dijk, who left the group early after being suspended.
It was a big opportunity for the Tottenham man, who had spent the build up to the international break being asked about his preferred role and the potential of linking up with Van Dijk at centre-back in the near future.
Indeed, only Stefan de Vrij came out of the game with any potential credit, a problem for Van de Ven given the defender is one of his main competitors for a role in central defence.
The Tottenham man certainly didn’t help his credentials and Kraay Junior was one of those left less than impressed.
‘What I am very shocked about, and at Tottenham Hotspur they will be too… We only hear that Van de Ven is fantastic at Tottenham as a central defender and we hear that he is fantastic as a left-back, but I have seen such an incredibly nervous Micky van de Ven,” he said.
“When they put zero pressure on him, he is good. Now he was SO uncertain on the ball.
“Everyone was getting each other into trouble, whether it was Van de Ven or Timber or Gravenberch or Reijnders. It was really unbelievable.”
