Tottenham remain confident in Fabio Paratici, despite him temporarily stepping back from his position this week.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say FIFA’s decision made a temporary separation between the two parties an ‘inevitable’ decision.
FIFA elected to extend Paratici’s Italian ban for alleged financial irregularities while at Juventus into a worldwide ban earlier this week, a decision that took Tottenham completely by surprise.
They had initially planned to stick by their director of football, hence the video 15 hours earlier in which he commented on Antonio Conte’s departure, the appointment of Cristian Stellini and other topics.
Gazzetta say that despite being banned in Italy, Paratici had ‘personally led’ the January transfer window and been instructed by Daniel Levy to begin the search for Conte’s replacement for next season.
FIFA’s decision has now forced a ‘change of heart’ and it became inevitable that Paratici would have to take a step back.
The newspaper explains that he returned to London on Thursday after a holiday in Italy during the international break before speaking with the team and then the club on Friday morning.
It was after that meeting, they decided on a period of ‘forced leave’, waiting for a final decision to be made on April 19th before deciding what to do.
Tottenham ‘still believe in’ Paratici and the work he was doing but his ban has complicated the situation considerably and added more chaos to a club that was already embroiled in plenty of it.
Levy has faith, and that could be key.
