On Thursday, a report in France emerged claiming that Tottenham were joining the race to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon.

Arch-rivals Arsenal had been after the midfielder for quite some time, but it was made clear Spurs, led by Fabio Paratici on the transfer market, were ‘ready to fight’ for the player this summer.

Well, there’s good news for them, as the Gunners have now pulled out of talks, refusing to offer more than their sub-€20m initial bid.

That leaves the path slightly clearer for Tottenham, who now have to deal with competition from Liverpool and Manchester United, both said to have also shown an interest recently.

Spurs, however, don’t intend to sit around waiting, as Le10 Sport claim the London side ‘should soon put forward an offer’, although the amount isn’t revealed.

Lyon, down their end, want somewhere between €20-25m for their midfielder, which is entirely affordable for a Premier League side, especially for a player with room to grow like Aouar.
