Earlier on Thursday, we covered the news that Tottenham had submitted their official bid for Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario.
That suggested an agreement had previously been found between the two sides during negotiations, and Spurs just needed to make it official in order to talk with the player.
With it done, Tottenham will now have to sort out all the paperwork and get the goalkeeper to put pen to paper on a contract, which could be done by the end of the week according to journalist Rudy Galetti.
Speaking to 1 Football Club and relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, he was asked directly about the Vicario situation.
He replied: “It’s now down to the details. Tottenham tried for Brentford’s David Raya, who despite only having a year left on his contract, was still very expensive. The Londoners then returned to the Italian goalkeeper, for whom interest dates back to January. We are under €20m, and probably by the end of the week, Vicario could be a Tottenham player.”
This means that, if Galetti is right, we could see the Empoli goalkeeper holding up a Tottenham shirt before Sunday if all goes to plan.
With Hugo Lloris on his way out, the Italian should be set to take over the first-team spot at the London club, or at least fight for it should the Frenchman stick around for the final year of his contract.
