Italian outlet Calcio Mercato today brings some interesting news on Tottenham Hotspur and their attempt to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan.

According to their report, José Mourinho’s side tried to buy the 24-year-old in the January transfer window, with a ‘very serious’ attempt, and had the move blocked by the Nerazzurri.

It’s claimed that the Serie A giants only said ‘no, thanks’, since Barella ‘can’t be touched’ and ‘isn’t on the market’.

Even though Inter Milan aren’t in a good financial situation, it’s said their stance will remain for the summer. The midfielder is seen as a crucial asset for their project and shouldn’t be negotiated.

Calcio Mercato claims that any club which goes for Barella at the end of the season will find a ‘wall’, as Inter Milan don’t even rule out an extension, despite the three years left on his contract.

Signed in a €28m deal from Cagliari last summer, Barella had already been linked to a number of Premier League sides in the past. The Tottenham target is now valued by Transfermarkt at €55m.
