Tottenham Hotspur have started this season on a bright note under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou.
It’s been two weeks since the summer transfer window closed but Spurs have already started planning for the future.
That’s according to Fichajes.net, who say Tottenham have included Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino in their target list for next season.
Spurs could see both Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso leave the club in the coming windows, and this has seen them start looking for a new midfielder.
This is where the 27-year-old would fit in, and he has Premier League experience from his time at Newcastle United.
The Spain international’s ability to recover balls, vision, distribution and versatility makes him the ‘complete’ midfielder, and it’s claimed he ‘fits perfectly’ into Postecoglou’s plans at the north London club.
Fichajes.net say Tottenham see a ‘golden opportunity’ to bolster their midfield with Merino but are expected to face competition as other clubs have also shown interest to sign him in 2024.
Merino’s deal lasts until 2025 and includes a €60m release clause, and the report adds the La Liga side are trying to extend his contract.
Should Real Sociedad fail to get a renewal then it puts pressure on them next summer and that €60m figure would look a little high.
