Tottenham’s decision to sell Pierre Emile Hojbjerg this summer has alerted Atletico Madrid, who believe he is now ‘within range’ for them.
That’s according to AS, who say Diego Simeone’s side are on the market for a defensive midfielder and Tottenham’s decision with Hojbjerg could have them targeting him again.
The newspaper explains that Simeone wanted a defensive midfielder a year ago and the Tottenham man was the number one target for him.
He provides everything that the Atletico manager wants but a deal could not be struck. Indeed, no defensive player arrived at all as Simeone sees Joey Vermeeren in a different role.
Thus, the club are working again on finding a solution and while they were focusing elsewhere, Hojbjerg has ‘hit the market’ and potentially changed their plans.
Tottenham have apparently made it clear they are looking to secure a sale for the midfielder this summer because he is not a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and is in the final year of his current contract.
That’s alerted Atletico, who may now be thinking about a move as the player is now potentially ‘within range’ for them.
The belief from AS is that they may see a deal for Hojbjerg as viable and potentially take advantage of Tottenham’s desire to get rid this summer.
